The Red Sox  have been  playing  Major League Baseball  at the world famous Fenway Park since 1912 and with eight  World Series championships  (having only appeared in 12), the  team  embodies class  on the field.The team is an iconic sporting figurehead worldwide, and their prowess and achievement is reflected in a huge array of merchandise, ranging from  player-autographed baseballs to  branded fidget spinners emblazoned with the team’s distinctive ‘B’; from  official club caps  to  key chains and Red Sox-themed desk caddies.The other, perhaps less celebrated but just as significant, side to the  Red Sox  is the altruistic work that’s  done by the Red Sox’s charitable foundation, established in 2003 by the club’s principle owner John Henry, chairman Tom Werner and president Larry Lucchino.The  Boston Red Sox Foundation  channels the passion that fans have for the Red Sox into  creating positive change in the  community, with the  aim  of motivating, educating and inspiring through the power of baseball to support groups and individuals in the US and beyond.Here is a brief look at just some of the charitable endeavours undertaken by the Red Sox Foundation. The centre has in excess of 15,000 unique patients and clients representing a large variety  of ethnic groups. The Foundation has supported and funded after-school programs for school children and support  programmes for drop outs, pregnant teens and new immigrants.Former CEO Larry Lucchino said of the Centre: “Those of us who work in professional sports live in the toy box of life. In exchange for that privilege, we have a responsibility to use the team’s as sets to do something that uplifts others.” The Dimock Center is a great example.The Jimmy FundIMAGE SOURCE:  FACEBOOKHealth  is a major  concern for the Red Sox Foundation, and the organisation has supported the Jimmy Fund  for many years. The Jimmy Fund is  an organisation fighting against cancer in children and adults in Boston.  Since 1953, the Red Sox and the Jimmy Fund have worked  together in support of cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The Red Sox has  helped raise more than  $45m for the Jimmy Fund since its formation. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); MA Little Leagues IMAGE SOURCE:  FACEBOOKThe  Red Sox spend a  huge  amount of time annually working to help Boston’s  inner city youth through  Rookie/RBI Baseball and Softball.  The Boston Red Sox Foundation sponsors around 200 Little League teams in the Massachusetts area, aiming to educate the children about the importance of discipline, team work and physical fitness. Each  sponsor ed team is named ‘Wally’s Team’, in a nod to Wally the Green Monster, the official mascot of  the Boston Red Sox.  The Foundation also sponsors the annual MA Little League State Tournament in the summer.Red Sox Scholar Program IMAGE SOURCE:  FACEBOOKThe  award-winning Red Sox Scholars program, launched in 2003, selects  a new class of Boston Public School students each year. The program currently provides mentoring, activities and college scholarships for  over 250 Boston students. Funded by the Red Sox Foundation, the college scholarships, each worth up to $10,000, are redeemable after the student enrols  in an accredited college and on condition of good citizenship. The  Red Sox Scholars all come from different backgrounds and have faced many challenges in their young lives so far. It’s a great day out, with spectators invited into the stands at Fenway Park,  with food, entertainment and fun activities in one of the great and most iconic of US ballparks.
